Going out to eat? Buyer beware

by c24delta on Sep.22, 2009, under Archive

BadRestaurantServiceIf you are planning on going out to eat think about this. While everybody is hurting with the way the economy is I want you to think about from the  restaurant business perspective. All restaurants are in business for the money. Right now there is less money going around and the competition for what money there is to be made is fierce.  There are new deals from many of the big chains such as 2 for $20. How is it possible to make a profit from such low prices? It’s not so easy and you just might be getting more then what you ordered. Remember the saying a penny saved is a penny earned? Well some, not all businesses are going to the extreme. Restaurants love steaks ordered well done because they use old and inferior cuts of steak because the cooking process would mask the flavor.  A common thing to do is called “bleaching” foods to remove odor from foods that have expired especially seafood. Think you get the best liquor in that mixed drink think again.  Here are a few of the stories that former food workers said happened at the restaurants they worked at. No names of the restaurants are given because not all restaurants practice this. So before sending that steak back think about this first.

All you can eat salad- Many restaurants serve this but what do they do with the uneaten salad?

Karen  W. said “The restaurant I worked at years ago would take the unused salad and dump it in another salad bowl and threw in new salad with the leftovers and mixed together and served.”

Biscuits/Bread sticks/Rolls – like the salad these are served and you can keep ordering more for free of charge

Michael G. said “I saw the bus boys place the rolls in a bucket and then the bucket was given to new customers.”

Liquors/Beer- Do you like to order mixed drinks or pitchers of beer?

Ben R. said “The well known sports bar I worked at would use the low grade vodkas and if your table kept ordering pitchers of beer by the third pitcher they would get topped off with seltzer.”

Salsa sauce/Marinara sauce – Do you like Salsa with your chips or Marinara with your Mozzarella sticks?

Juan R. said “I work at a Mexican restaurant as a bus boy and we take the leftover Salsa and empty it into the salsa bucket and then reuse it.”

Steaks – How do you like your steak? Well done?

Ray S. “I worked at a well known Steak house in NYC. when people would order their steak well done that was like saying give me the old piece of steak that you didn’t throw away two days ago.”
